First day of stuff to do, slept aright, i kept the window open to make sure there was air movement, but traded that for noise, try something new tonight...
first we wandered over to the very large Serb Orthodox church the Temple of St. Sava, that has been 80 years in the making, built over the site of where the Turks burned the bones of St. Sava (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Sava). it was very big, marble facade outside, but its not done so needed stainedglass n whatnot. inside it was huge, bare concrete walls for the most part, but sizewise, easily on par with Hagia Sofia, but considering its been built in the past 80 yrs alot less impressive.
also went to check out the Kalamegdan Fortress (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalemegdan), pretty cool, ill prolly check it out in more detail later, from what Mladen (the TA running everything, incase i hadnt mentioned him yet) told us, the hill/area was originally settled by Celtic peoples, then Romans, who started the Fort, then various Slavic peoples, and the Byzantines, and then the Turks, and when they pulled out the Serbs themselves.
Had a traditionalish meal, cased/skewered grilled meats, and onions/cucumber salad, so that was exactly what i was expecting
after lunch we met with the Archbishop of Belgrade diocese, he spoke about history of Catholicism in the region, the religious diversity of the area, the national diversity of Catholics in the area, it was interesting, once we speak to other religious leaders ill prolly be able to address this in better depth.
i also realize my laziness has kicked in and i am not capitalizing and sentence making properly anymore, im not going to rectify it, also, one of these days ill toss my pictures on here, not today though
i believe some of us are going out to celebrate US independence, i recognize that we are in a country we bombed the shit out of in the last 15 years, so itll be great.
